What is Dyslexia & How to Spot it

Dyslexia is a neurological disorder in which there is unexpected failure to read. It is genetic - where brain cells are arranged differently from a normal reader's. The extent of the difference in brain cell arrangement determines the severity. About 90% of cases are hereditary.

How to spot it:

  • Mirror writing and letter reversal - writing 'b' instead of "d'
  • Poor concentration
  • Confuse left and right
  • Unable to understand time and tense
  • Learning to talk late
  • Mental block with reading, writing or spelling
  • Difficulty in copying
  • Speech or hearing difficulties
  • Difficulty in sequencing - listing the days of the week.
